Eastern Europe Pilgrimage from Budapest to Prague.

Delve behind the former ‘Iron Curtain' to find a rich culture infused with religious devotion and some confronting reminders of WWII. Explore some of the most stunning cities of the east, with plenty of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and travel opportunities waiting to be discovered. Its epic history, picturesque natural landscapes and fascinating cultures witness to being home to some of the most remarkable destinations in the world.

Day 1: ARRIVE BUDAPEST (D)
Welcome to beautiful Budapest, capital of Hungary and the city known as the ‘Paris of the East’. This evening we will connect with fellow pilgrims over a warm Welcome Dinner.

Day 2: BUDAPEST (BD)
We set out on a day of discovery as we tour the stunning Basilica of St Stephen which holds the saints mummified hand, the decorative Parliament building and Heroes Square. We marvel at the 118-foot-high Corinthian column, the 13th century Church of St Matthias and the Fisherman’s Bastion before our tour concludes with a panoramic view of the city from Gellert Hill. Enjoy some free time before embarking on an enchanting Dinner Cruise on the River Danube to see the city’s architecture gloriously illuminated.

Day 3: DUDAPEST TO ZAKOPANE (BD)
Departing Budapest this morning, we traverse breathtaking alpine landscape before arriving at the resort village of Zakopane. We will spend the next few days close to the heart of Pope St John Paul II beginning with some time in prayer at the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, built in thanksgiving of his narrow escape from assassination on May 13, 1981.

Day 4: ZAKOPANE TO KRAKOW (BD)
We ascend into the Tatras Mountains by cable car and come across the many walking trails once frequented by young Fr Karol and his companions. Also, here atop Mt Kasprowy we enter the charming wooden Jaszczorowka Chapel so loved by the humble saint since boyhood. We travel on to Krakow and arrive in time for dinner.

Day 5: KRAKOW (BD)
Krakow enchants us on our walking tour as we visit Wawel Cathedral where Fr Karol Wojtyla was ordained in 1946, St Florian’s Church, where he developed a flourishing underground youth ministry and Market Square where we will discover one of the most beautiful medieval city centres in Europe. Our afternoon draws us to the Shrine of Divine Mercy where Our Lord appeared to St Faustina. Here we will witness the miraculous image of the Merciful Jesus, painted in accordance with St Faustina’s vision, celebrate Mass and venerate her tomb. Before the close of our captivating day, we will travel out to the famous Wieliczka Salt Mines for an enthralling tour of the oldest mines in Europe.

Day 6: WADOWICE & AUSCHWITZ (BD)
We journey to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska to visit the favourite Marian Shrine of Pope St John Paul II before heading into Wadowice where the great saint was born. Here we enter his family house and in the market square we see the famous church where Karol Wojtyla was baptized. Prepare for a deeply moving encounter of Auschwitz where we mourn the millions of people who were put to death here. We pray too in the martyrdom bunker of selfless St Maximilian Kolbe and view his cell. Return to Krakow.

Day 7: CZESTOCHOWA PILGRIMAGE (BD)
We farewell Krakow and travel north to Czestochowa, home to the miraculous icon of Our Lady with the Child Jesus (also known as the Black Madonna), housed within the fortress monastery of the Pauline Monks of Jasna Gora (meaning Bright Hill). Here we will celebrate our cherished group Mass then tour the Basilica, Treasury, Museum and Knights Hall in anticipation of the humbling opportunity to pray before the image of the Black Madonna in the ancient chapel.

Day 8: CZESTOCHOWA TO PRAGUE (BD)
Departing Czestochowa this morning, we journey west through lush green countryside. We make a visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Wambierzyce in the foothills of the Table Mountains, home to the miniature miraculous image of the Virgin Mary. While here we visit the Szopka with its hundreds of tiny mechanized figures carved from limewood reliving the Gospel stories. We re-board our coach to cross the border into the Czech Republic and arrive into the golden city of Prague.

Day 9: PRAGUE (BD)
A walking tour of Prague illustrates the reason it’s ranked one of the most beautifully preserved cities in Europe. Our sightseeing includes St Vitus Cathedral, the city’s most distinctive landmark, Hradcany area and the Prague Castle. We arrive at the Church of Our Lady Victorious where we come face to face with the miraculous wax figure of the Holy Infant of Prague, and here we celebrate Mass together. Cross the historical Charles Bridge and continue our tour of the Old Town area and its prominent sites. This evening we enjoy a special dinner as a fitting celebration of our pilgrimage together.

Day 10: DEPART PRAGUE (B)
Our pilgrimage ends after breakfast this morning.
