Welcome to Lourdes, the small town where Our Lady first appeared to 14-year-old Bernadette in 1858. This evening we join with fellow pilgrims over a warm Welcome Dinner.

We joyfully celebrate an International Mass this morning with pilgrims worldwide in the immense Underground Basilica of Pius X, followed by a trip to the little village of Bartres. Here in the mountains, we’ll explore the actual town where St Bernadette spent her youth and visit the Sheepfold where she would tend her flock as well as her local Parish Church where she spent many hours deep in prayer. Enjoy a peaceful afternoon to wander across the narrow pavements in this beautiful valley town before dinner. This evening we have the option of joining a memorable candlelight procession .
Mass Setting: Underground Basilica of Pius X

Celebrate a beautiful group Mass at the Grotto before our guided walking tour of Lourdes including the Sanctuary area: Upper & Lower Basilicas, the Grotto and the Baths where hundreds of miraculous cures have transpired. We continue our exploration of all the main sites associated with St Bernadette including her birthplace at the Boly Mill, the original parish church and the Cachot (prison) where her family were forced to live during the time of the apparitions. Make the most of your free afternoon taking the opportunity to immerse in the miraculous Baths and pray for the sick. Optional Blessed Sacrament Procession and Blessing of the sick before a final evening candlelight procession after dinner.

After flying into Lyon this morning (cost incuded), we rise above the city to the stunning Fourviere Basilica built in thanksgiving to Our Lady for her protection of the city during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. We travel on to the little village of Ars nearby where pilgrims from all over Europe flocked to see the humble St John Vianney. We will view his incorrupt body in the small church he built himself, now contained within the magnificent Basilica and celebrate Mass in this moving place. Soon we find ourselves in Paray-le-Monial where St Margaret Mary Alacoque experienced visions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

“Words simply cannot describe the pilgrimage – you just have to go and experience it for yourself.” — Anne Burrows-Jung

After breakfast we set off for Taize, the tiny hillside community Pope John Paul II referred to as ‘that little springtime’ and to which young people all over the world are drawn. We join them for midday prayer which is sung beautifully in the great candlelit church. Upon our return to Paray-le-Monial, we enjoy a guided visit to several remarkable sites including the Chapel of Apparitions for Mass, the relics of St Margaret Mary and the glorious Basilica of Sacre Coeur.
Mass Setting: Paray-Le-Monial

We bid farewell to the city of the ‘Heart of Jesus’ and journey to the town of Nevers nestled within the picturesque Loire Valley. After being blessed with 18 apparitions of Our Lady, St Bernadette retired to this small town and died at the early age of only 35. We will have the opportunity to pray before her incorrupt body housed in the tranquil Convent of St Gildard. Onward to the city of Chartres we travel where we are swept away by the magnificent Chartres Cathedral with its dazzling blue stained-glass windows presenting a vision of the heavenly city that awaits us, and precious Holy Veil, said to be worn by the Blessed Virgin Mary when she gave birth to Jesus. We will also examine the most famous labyrinth in the world constructed in 1200.

We travel west today to Lisieux, home of St Thérèse, the ‘Little Flower’, whom Pope Pius X called ‘the greatest saint of modern times’. Today we enjoy a pilgrimage tour of Lisieux visiting the family home of St Thérèse at Les Buissonets, and the peaceful Carmelite Convent Chapel which she entered when she was just 15 years old. We’ll view its fascinating reliquary of the saint and visit the impressive Basilica of St. Thérèse. Spend the afternoon soaking up the sophistication of this town from its culinary delights to its historic Château’s.

Our unforgettable pilgrimage comes to an end this morning after breakfast together.

“A great deepening of faith, seeing and hearing of the lives of the saints and celebrating Mass in many special places” — Stella Teg
