Tasmanian Spirit Inaugural Journey – Harvest Journeys

Tasmanian Spirit Inaugural Journey

Pilgrims on the first Tasmanian Spirit pilgrimage, November 2022

Tasmanian Spirit was our inaugural Catholic Roadtrip to the Southern Isle and was blessed by a wonderful group of pilgrims along with our chaplain Fr Michael Twigg OMI. Our pioneering pilgrims were the first to walk the pilgrim pathways of this part of Australia.

In the history of Harvest Journeys, this was the first pilgrimage to ever feature an encounter with a devil, in the Tasmanian Devil’s sanctuary at Cradle Mountain!

Read the pilgrims’ reflections and see their photographs below.

Testimonials

  • Each day was a different experience … meeting Jesus first of all in my fellow pilgrims at meals, on the bus, whilst walking … meeting Jesus daily in the Word proclaimed at Mass, and in the Eucharist … meeting Jesus in the beauty of creation, in the glory of the Tasmanian coastal waters, rivers, forests or mountain vistas.

  • On many occasions, childhood memories were evoked in older Catholic and Anglican Churches. It was good to meet the religious and congregation members, who made us feel special as pilgrims. Personally, I found the isolation and wilderness in Tasmania confronting but also contemplative. I have always found I’m closer to God in these settings.

    Michael, NSW
  • We met some wonderful people to share our faith with and as it was a small group, we all became friends.

    Elizabeth, NSW
  • Tassie is magical and God is abundant and generous and everywhere in nature.

    John and Jacinta, WA
