Day 1Mon 17 October – Anniversary of the Cannonisation of St Mary Mackillop - Melbourne via Lara & Lorne to Apollo Bay

Theme: New Beginnings
Proposed Mass: Mary MacKillop Chapel, Melbourne

  • Tour the Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre and Museum where we will hear the story of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop and her life and work and the work of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. 
  • Enjoy morning tea at the Heritage Centre.
  • Travel west to Lara and visit the home of Peter MacKillop, Mary’s uncle.
  • Travel south along the Great Ocean Road for an exhilarating drive via Lorne.

Apollo Bay overnight (BD) 

Day 2Tue 18 October - Apollo Bay to Portland

Theme: Wonder of Creation
Proposed Mass: Lady of the Sea, Apollo Bay

  • Continue along the stunning Great Ocean Road.
  • See the Twelve Apostles, the magnificent rock stacks that rise up majestically from the Southern Ocean on Victoria’s dramatic coastline.
  • Travel on via the colourful seaside village of Port Campbell.

Portland Overnight (BD)

Day 3Wed 19 October - Portland Exploration

Theme: Food for the Journey
Proposed Mass: All Saints Catholic Church, Portland

  • Explore the sites of Mary Mackillop including Bay View House & Stables.
  • Celebrate Mass at the All Saints Catholic Church in Portland where Mary was once a sacristan. Also see here the stained glass window depicting the young Mary teaching her students.
  • Afternoon at leisure.
  • Sunset drive option to nearby Cape Bridgewater.

Portland Overnight (BD)

Day 4Thu 20 October - Portland to Penola via Hamilton & Mt Gambier

Theme: Springs of Living Water
Proposed Mass: St Mary’s Catholic Church, Hamilton

  • Travel north to Hamilton, where Mary MacKillop spent her time during the 1860s.
  • Visit the grave of Mary MacKillop’s father at the Hamilton Cemetery.
  • Travel into South Australia via Dartmoor & Nelson to Port MacDonnell jetty where Mary sailed to Adelaide on the SS Penola in 1867.
  • Visit Mt Gambier and the stunning Blue Lake.
  • Arrive Penola.

Day 5Fri 21 October - Penola Pilgrimage Day

Theme: Grace Through Trials
Proposed Mass: St Joseph’s Church, Penola

  • Join the local community for morning tea after Mass.
  • Explore the Mary MacKillop Interpretive Centre where we will have a light lunch.
  • Visit a local Catholic family winery, for a vineyard tour and wine tasting.

Day 6Sat 22 October - Penola to Victor Harbor

Theme: Spirit of the Pioneers
Proposed Mass: St Mary’s Star of the Sea, Robe

  • Travel to Robe this morning.
  • View the stunning Pink Lake at Meningie.
  • Arrive into Murray Bridge & visit St Joseph’s School founded in 1925 by the Sisters of St Joseph.
  • Continue onto Victor Harbor

Victor Harbor overnight (BD)

Day 7Sun 23 October – Victor Harbor to Barossa Valley

Theme: Hope & Inspiration
Proposed Mass: TBC

  • Wander through Hahndorf, Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement.
  • Visit Lyndoch Lavender Farm.

Barossa Valley overnight (BD)

Day 8Mon 24 October - Sevenhill Ignatian Centre and Winery

Theme: Abundance of Blessings
Proposed Mass: St Aloysius Church, Sevenhill

  • Visit the Sevenhill Centre of Ignatian Spirituality in the Clare Valley.
  • Listen to an inspired talk here by one of the local religious.
  • Explore Sevenhill Vineyards and enjoy a wine-tasting experience.
  • Remainder of the afternoon to rest back at our lovely hotel.

Barossa Valley overnight (BLD)

Day 9Tuesday 25 October - Barossa Valley to Adelaide

Theme: Peace & Reconciliation
Proposed Mass: St Patrick’s Church, Adelaide

  • Travel south to Adelaide, the City of Churches.
  • Join the “Mary MacKillop’s Tour” visiting the St Mary MacKillop precinct in Adelaide. Follow the Mary MacKillop Walk through the suburbs of Kensington and Norwood which became an important part in Mary’s story. Visit the Mary MacKillop Museum and St Joseph’s Chapel. 
  • Mass at St Patrick’s Church on the site where Mary MacKillop worshiped from 1867-1871.
  • Farewell dinner celebration. 

Adelaide overnight (BD)

Day 10Wednesday 26 October - Finish Adelaide
