Our Lady of Guadalupe Pilgrimage

We will begin our day with a walking tour of Guadalajara, visiting Mexico’s most treasured architectural masterpieces, including the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Assumption in the central square. We will also explore the Palacio de Gobierno, famous for its striking murals by José Clemente Orozco, and the UNESCO World Heritage site, Instituto Cultural Cabañas. We will celebrate Mass in the neo-Gothic Templo Expiatorio (of the Blessed Sacrament).

Our exploration of Guadalajara will continue as we visit Templo de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, a stunning church rebuilt from a 17th-century chapel, and the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, one of the most visited Marian sites in the world, where we will celebrate Mass. We will also explore Parroquia del Dulce Nombre de Jesús, the Museum of the Cristero Martyrs, and Templo de San Felipe Neri, regarded as one of the most beautiful religious buildings in the city.

Today we will celebrate Mass at the Basilica de Nuestra Señora de Zapopan, home to the revered statue of Nuestra Señora de Zapopan, which draws pilgrims from far and wide. Following Mass, we will take a private transfer to Sahuayo to visit Parroquia de Santiago Apóstol, the site of the martyrdom of 15-year-old San José Sánchez del Río.

Our journey continues as we travel from Guadalajara to Guanajuato, stopping en route at the Cathedral Basilica de San Juan de los Lagos, where we will celebrate Mass at the Marian Shrine. We then embark on a full-day tour through the beautiful Jalisco countryside, visiting Tepatitlán, where we will learn about the Tree of San Tranquilino Ubiaco and view relics of San Francisco de Asis. We will also visit the Templo de Nuestro Señor de Misericordia and the Cristero Museum, as well as the Santuario de Santo Toribio Romo, his birthplace, and the site of his martyrdom.

Upon arrival in Guanajuato, we will visit the Sanctuary of Cristo Rey, where we will celebrate Mass. Afterwards, we’ll explore the city, visiting the University of Guanajuato and the famous Kiss Alley.

We will transfer to the enchanting town of San Miguel de Allende for a walking tour visiting La Parroquia, where we will celebrate Mass, Templo de la Concepción and Nuestra Señora de la Salud, as well as Casa Allende, the family home of Ignacio Allende, a hero of Mexico’s independence. After a leisurely afternoon exploring the cobblestone streets and the town’s beautiful colonial architecture, we will make our way to Atotonilco to visit the Sanctuary, often referred to as the Sistine Chapel of the Americas due to its stunning frescoes.

Overnight in San Miguel de Allende (BD)

We transfer to Mexico City and begin our expanded time in the capital with a visit to Templo de San Hipólito, dedicated to San Judas Tadeo, the patron saint of desperate causes and a beloved figure in Mexican popular devotion. We then visit the Iglesia de San Juan Bautista in Coyoacán for a time of quiet prayer.

After lunch, we explore Barrio Santa María la Ribera, home to the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and visit the Kiosco Morisco, an ornate 19th-century Moorish-style pavilion that represents Mexico’s blending of cultures.

The miraculous story of the Virgin of Guadalupe who appeared to indigenous peasant, Juan Diego is revered throughout the Americas. A doubting Archbishop was convinced of the apparitions when Juan Diego, instructed by Our Lady, presented him with Castilian roses in winter, which are not found in Mexico, was well as an inexplicable image of the Virgin Mary imprinted on Juan’s cloak, known as a tilma. This miraculous tilma is viewed by over 20 million people who visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe each year.

Our day will begin with a visit to Plaza de las Tres Culturas, a symbolic location representing the fusion of pre-Hispanic and Spanish roots. Next, we will explore the Teotihuacán archaeological site, known for its stunning Mesoamerican pyramids, murals and carvings.

In the afternoon, we celebrate the Mass in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe (San Jose Chapel), offering our prayers to our beloved Mother. View the miraculous tilma that bears a unique image of Our Lady, rich in symbolism that was quickly interpreted and embraced by the Aztec people. Take time to pray here and understand the devotion to the Virgin of Guadalupe.

We will start our day with a celebration of Mass at Sagrada Familia Church, followed by a visit to the museum. Our journey will then take us to Coyoacán, where we will explore the beautiful surroundings before heading to the Xochimilco Gardens. Here, we will enjoy a delightful one-hour boat ride on a traditional Trajinera.

Today we depart for a full-day tour to Cholula. Here, we visit the Great Pyramid of Cholula, an archaeological site home to the largest pyramid known to exist in the world today. We will also visit Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, a stunning 16th-century church built atop the pyramid.

We continue our journey to Puebla, where we will explore the Catedral Basilica, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, the Iglesia de Santo Domingo, which houses the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary, and Casa del Alfeñique, an outstanding example of 18th-century decorative style.

We begin our day with a walking tour of Mexico City, starting at the Zócalo, where we will visit the magnificent Catedral Metropolitana and the Templo Mayor archaeological site. Afterward, we will view the Palacio Nacional from the outside and celebrate Mass at the Templo de la Enseñanza.

Our journey continues to Iglesia de San Francisco de Asis, and we will conclude our day at the Museo Nacional de Antropología, the largest and most visited museum in Mexico.

In the evening, we will enjoy our final dinner at a local restaurant featuring mariachi music and a folkloric show.
