Ordained in Majorca, Spain in 1995, this joyful priest has served as a missionary in Colombia, Venezuela, Spain, The Philippines, Ireland, Germany, the United States of America and Italy.
Fr Greg went on to become the Administrator General and Vice Superior (male congregation) of the Verbum Dei Fraternity. Fr Greg is now the Parish Priest of St Charles Borromeo and Our Lady Queen of Peace Ryde-Gladesville. No stranger to pilgrimage, his humble and endearing character makes him a wonderful choice to accompany this most unique pilgrimage journey into the breathtaking heartlands of New Zealand’s South Island.

Itinerary

 

Day 1 – Wednesday 13 October – Arrive Christchurch

  • Begin in Christchurch. You will be welcomed on arrival at your centrally located group hotel by our Tour Leader. 
  • Get to know your fellow travelers as we come together to share our first group dinner this evening.

Day 2 -Thursday 14 October – Christchurch via the Tranz Alpine Railway to Franz Josef Glacier

  • This morning we board the Tranz Alpine Railway, (renowned as one of the great train journeys of the world). Travel over massive viaducts, river valleys and spectacular gorges as you ascend through Arthur’s Pass located in the centre of the Southern Alps.
  • Mass at St Patrick’s Church Greymouth

Franz Josef Overnight (BD)

 

Day 3 – Friday 15 October – Franz Josef Glacier to Queenstown

  • Mass at Our Lady Of The Alps – Catholic Church, Franz Josef
  • Travel south following the Southern Alps via scenic Haast Pass & the resort town of Wanaka
  • Arrive into Queenstown , NZ’s home of adventure, for a 2 night stay.

Day 4 – Saturday 16 October –  Queenstown Exploration 

  • Tour the sites of Queenstown this morning
  • Afternoon free to explore Queenstown
  • Mass at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Queenstown
  • Board the vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw and cruise across Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak Station
  • Enjoy a delicious gourmet barbecue dinner featuring a menu of seasonal, fresh and locally sourced food at the Colonel’s Homestead.

Day 5 – Sunday 17 October – Queenstown via Arrowtown to Te Anau 

  • Visit Mary MacKillop Cottage in the old gold mining village of Arrowtown. Located on the St Patrick’s Catholic Church grounds, the Mary MacKillop Cottage is a small yellow cottage originally built as a miner’s house around 1870 where in 1897 Sister Mary MacKillop converted the cottage into a convent for the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart 
  • Mass at St Patrick’s Church, Arrowtown
  • Visit the Te Anau Glowworm Caves

Day 6 – Monday 18 October – Cruise on the Milford Sound

  • Enjoy a fascinating scenic drive to Milford Sound
  • Cruise on this magnificent fjord. See Bowen Falls and the towering Mitre Peak. Enjoy a picnic lunch during the cruise.
  • Mass at St Bernard’s Catholic Church, Te Anau

Te Anau overnight (BLD)

 

Day 7 – Tuesday 19 October – Te Anau to Dunedin 

  • Depart Te Anau this morning and travel east to Dunedin, known as the “Edinburgh of the South”
  • City tour of Dunedin
  • Visit Larnach Castle and Gardens – High Tea
  • Mass at St Joseph Cathedral Dunedin
  • The Little Blue Penguin viewing tour at dusk

Dunedin Overnight (BLD)

 

Day 8 – Wednesday 20 October – Dunedin to Lake Tekapo

  • Via Oamaru, famous for its white limestone
  • Lunch and Mass at Twizel (Church of All Saints Catholic Church)
  • View Mt. Cook – New Zealand’s highest peak

Lake Tekapo Overnight (BLD)

 

Day 9 – Thursday 21 October – Lake Tekapo Retreat Day

  • Visit the Church of the Good Shepherd and the Mackenzie Sheep Dog Statue
  • Mass at the Church of the Good Shepherd
  • Restful afternoon off by the turquoise waters.

Day 10 – Friday 22 October – Lake Tekapo to Christchurch

  • Depart Lake Tekapo and journey across the scenic Canterbury Plains to Christchurch
  • Visit the Carmelite Monastery
  • Mass at the Christchurch Pro-Cathedral
  • Farewell dinner

Day 11 – Saturday 23 October – Finish Christchurch
