Walking in the Footsteps of Pope Leo XIV

Begin your day with a visit to the Chiclayo Cathedral (Santa María), an important diocesan church where the then Bishop of Chiclayo, later Pope Leo XIV, regularly celebrated Mass ( Por confirmer ) during his pastoral ministry. Continue to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Saint Joseph, a place conducive to spiritual reflection and communal prayer. Lunch at Cantaro Restaurant in Lambayeque.

We then proceed to Lambayeque for a visit to the Cathedral and Parish of San Pedro, one of the region’s main centers of faith. Finally, the group travels to Zaña to visit the historic Convent of San Agustín, an old colonial center that bears witness to centuries of Augustinian spirituality in northern Peru.

We will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before returning to the hotel for overnight.

We’ll wake for an early morning transfer to the airport for our flight to Lima. Upon arrival, you  will be met and transferred to your hotel for early check-in and Breakfast in the hotel in Lima.

The tour of Lima begins with a visit to the Sanctuary of Saint Rosa de Lima, including the famous Wishing Well and the saint’s original cell. Continue to the Sanctuary of “Señor de los Milagros” and its Museum, the most important center of Catholic devotion in the country.

The tour continues to Basilica Cathedral of Lima, the Convent and Museum of Santo Domingo, where Saint Rose and Saint Martin de Porres, icons of Peruvian spirituality, lived. Then, visit the Convent of San Francisco y Catacombs and Cathedral of San José del Callao to enjoy a panoramic cultural view of the Real Felipe Fortress, one of the most representative historical monuments of Callao’s main port. We’ll enjoy lunch in the local restaurant.

This morning we will fly to Cusco.

We will pick you up at the airport in Cusco and transfer you to your hotel in Cusco, assist with check-in approx. 12:10, and provide support as needed. Lunch at the hotel.

Cusco is a spiritual center where Catholic faith and the Andean worldview come together, and its main temples reflect this profound religious syncretism. The Cathedral of Cusco, home to the venerated Lord of the Earthquakes, leads the list of must-see sites for its artistic richness and devotional importance, then—the Qorikancha— symbolizes the union of two sacred traditions that still coexist in the city today. with its famous carved pulpit, the Church of La Merced, and the Monastery of Santa Catalina complete a route where processions, religious art, and colonial architecture reveal the living spirituality of the historic capital of Peru and finally the Twelve-Angled Stone. Dinner at the hotel. OPTIONAL: Paddy’s Irish Pub after dinner. 

Overnight in Cusco (B, L, D)

We start the day early with a visit to the citadel of Machu Picchu. We will depart from Ollanta train station towards the majestic city of Aguas Calientes, the travel time is approximately 01 hour 30 minutes. 

Arrival to Aguas Calientes town, from here we will board the buses to ascend to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, one of the 7 wonders of the world. At the end of it we will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes to have lunch at local restaurant. Those who wish to continue hiking on your own may descend and rejoin the group at leisure.

This morning we will transfer to the station to board the train back to Ollantaytambo. Arrival and transfer back to Cusco.

Arrive at Cusco and transfer to Cusco Airport for our flights to Lima to begin our journey home to the US. (B,L)
